The challenge Asian countries and societies are now confronted with is vast: how to reform current economic development strategies into more environmentally sound directions. The challenges these countries face become even more pressing in an age marked by globalization, where markets, investment, capital and wastes increasingly cross boarders and escape the political regimes of nation-states, while supra-national agreements and organizations to replace them remain weak. This new series focuses on these challenges and weaknesses. The series seeks to publish monographs and edited volumes that report, analyze and attempt to understand the characteristics, institutional arrangements and innovations, actor configurations, successes and failures in environmental governance.
